Many individuals seek assessment after years of feeling overwhelmed, “different,” chronically exhausted, emotionally burnt out, or struggling to understand difficulties with attention, sensory experiences, relationships, emotional regulation, organisation, or masking. For others, parenthood, increased life demands, or learning more about neurodivergence may prompt exploration later in life.
Assessments involve a detailed clinical interview, psychometric questionnaires, exploration of developmental history, and consideration of current functioning and mental health. Where appropriate, collateral information may also be included as part of the assessment process.
ADHD, Autism & AuDHD Assessments
I offer comprehensive psychological assessments for ADHD, Autism, and combined AuDHD presentations in a warm, collaborative, and neuroaffirming environment. Assessments are designed to help individuals better understand their experiences, strengths, challenges, and patterns of functioning across different areas of life.
What to Expect During Your Assessment
Every assessment is tailored to your individual needs and referral questions. While the assessment process may vary depending on the reason for referral, comprehensive psychological assessments typically include the following components:
Comprehensive Clinical Interview
A detailed clinical interview is conducted to gain an understanding of your current concerns, developmental history, medical and mental health history, education, employment, relationships, strengths and daily functioning. Diagnostic interviews are completed in accordance with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR) diagnostic criteria where appropriate.
Standardised Diagnostic Assessment
Where indicated, evidence-based, standardised assessment measures are administered to assist with diagnostic clarification. Depending on the referral question, this may include structured interviews such as the DIVA-5 for ADHD and the MIGDAS-2 for autism, together with other standardised psychological assessment tools.
Collateral Information
With your consent (or the consent of a parent or guardian where appropriate), information may be gathered from family members, partners, friends, teachers or other health professionals. This information provides valuable insight into how difficulties present across different settings and over time and forms an important part of a comprehensive assessment.
Standardised Questionnaires
Standardised questionnaires may be completed by you and, where appropriate, by parents, caregivers, teachers or significant others. These questionnaires provide additional information regarding attention, executive functioning, neurodivergent characteristics, emotional wellbeing, behaviour and everyday functioning.
Adaptive Behaviour Assessment
Where clinically indicated, an assessment of adaptive functioning may be completed to evaluate everyday living skills, communication, social functioning and independence across home, school, work and community environments.
Cognitive Assessment (Optional add on or standalone assessment)
Where appropriate or requested, a comprehensive cognitive assessment may be incorporated into the assessment process. This can assist in understanding an individual's cognitive strengths and areas of difficulty and may contribute to diagnostic clarification and recommendations.
Integration of Assessment Findings
Assessment findings are not based on a single test or questionnaire. Diagnostic conclusions are reached through the integration of information gathered from clinical interviews, behavioural observations, standardised assessment measures, collateral information and relevant background documentation, in accordance with current best-practice clinical guidelines.
Comprehensive Diagnostic Report
Following completion of the assessment, you will receive a detailed written report summarising the assessment findings. Reports typically include:
the reason for referral
background and developmental history
assessment procedures undertaken
behavioural observations
assessment results and interpretation
diagnostic conclusions (where applicable)
individual strengths and areas of difficulty
evidence-based recommendations for treatment, supports, education, workplace adjustments or further assessment.
Feedback Appointment
A feedback appointment is included with every assessment. During this appointment, your psychologist will explain the assessment findings, discuss any diagnoses, answer your questions and review recommendations and appropriate next steps.
To provide greater flexibility, clients can choose between:
a brief diagnostic report, which provides a concise summary of assessment findings, diagnosis (where applicable), and recommendations; or
a comprehensive report, which includes more detailed developmental history, interpretation of assessment findings, functional impacts, and tailored recommendations for supports or accommodations.
This flexible approach allows clients to select an option that best suits their individual needs, intended use of the report, and budget.
Assessments are currently available for adults or adolescents aged 16 years and over.
